Fair Work First Statement
The Nether Lochaber Community Association (NLCA) became an employer in 2024 and as such we understand the importance of supporting our employees and creating a positive environment for everyone. Our commitment in this capacity includes providing an inclusive, fair and respectful workspace that promotes employee well-being. We agree with and follow the principles outlined in the Scottish Government's Fair Work First policy.
Volunteers
The NLCA works with many different volunteers including the Trustees. Like employees, we value their contribution to our organisation and want to support their general well-being. For the purposes of this document volunteers will be included when referring to staff where relevant. Please refer to the employee handbook and our volunteer documents for specific policies.
Our Fair Work First Commitment:
Open Communication and Appropriate Channels for Effective Voice
The NLCA ensures a safe environment for all staff to voice their opinions, be themselves and take part in decision making processes. Our staff have dedicated line managers who they regularly speak to in one-to-one meetings. We hold regular team meetings that are open for staff to attend and speak at.
Flexible Working Arrangements and Family-Friendly Opportunities
The NLCA acknowledges the impact of balancing a modern lifestyle, employment and family and how this can pose extra pressure on our staff. We aim to support employees to strike harmony between their personal and professional lives. We support remote working, flexible hours and are open to negotiating shift patterns and rotas.
Equality Opportunities, Financial Security and Fair Wages
The NLCA follows a transparent recruitment process that is fair and systematic across all opportunities including those advertised internally. We value the growth of our staff and try to invest in development and training where possible.
We are proud to pay the Real Living Wage and support tackling the gender pay gap. NLCA does not use zero-hours contracts and firmly opposes fire and rehire practices. Our aim as an employer is to provide our staff with job security and ultimately financial stability.
Creating a respectful Workplace
We believe that every member of the NLCA team should be treated with respect and dignity. We have a zero tolerance to bullying, discrimination, harassment or victimisation. Every member of the NLCA team is expected to uphold these values so we can create a safe and friendly working environment.
NLCA recognising that the Fair Work First principles benefit our team, our working environment and ultimately, they contribute to the betterment of our community.
