Nether Lochaber Community Association April – June Newsletter
- Activity Day
There has been some discussion about changing the day and time of the activity events. In July, we’d like to trial a Wednesday evening event, and therefore could we ask those interested to meet at the picnic site on Wednesday 3rd July 2024 at 7 pm and the main focus of the work will be at Creag Mhor Cemetery. We can take advantage of the lovely light evenings we have during summer. This does not mean that all activity events will not take place on Wednesday evenings and if you have any suggestions on what an ideal day and time for us could be to do these, please let us know.

Tubs and Garden Areas
With thanks to all the volunteers who have ensured that summer bedding has been planted in the various tubs around Nether Lochaber to get them looking summery!
Further information will follow, but we are looking into a sponsorship scheme for the tubs which will generate income for us to continue to buy bulbs and maintain the tubs. Watch this space!
Walking Engagement Event at Inchree
Our walking engagement event on 30th March was a great success and I’d like to thank those who were able to come along for the walk, and then engage in some great discussions afterwards at Roam West. Our timing was perfect – dry weather for the walk, and then teeming rain while we ate! Our survey was launched and we managed to get some great feedback for those attending, who completed the survey on a tablet.
Our survey is still open and we’d love to hear your opinions on the needs of the area. If you need a paper copy delivered to you, please let me know and I’ll ensure one is delivered to you. Alternatively, you can access the survey online, here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F8HPK22
- Inchree Barn Update
We are progressing along with the next set of surveys- having just completed the topographical one and starting the bat survey. Once they are all completed we can work with the architects at INCH to provide a clearer more detailed set of site plans.
Lucy (our Project Officer) is currently working through a finance plan and trying to work out which funds to approach for the capital costs. Unfortunately, there is a significant lack of grant aid for capital projects at the moment but we are hoping that more will be announced in due course. Alongside this Lucy is planning some outdoor workshops for the community. She will be advertising these very soon!
You may have noticed that we have launched a side project - The Inchree Nature or Ecosystem Project. We are interested in the environment surrounding the barn and are keen to ensure that the development grows in harmony in the setting. There is a diverse range of flora and fauna in the area and we hope to form a wildlife monitoring group. The feedback from the Inchree Barn Project Spring Survey showed a lot of support for wildlife/environment focussed activities. If you are interested in getting involved please get in touch with Lucy via email (below).
The Inchree Barn Project Spring Survey is still open for comment (if you haven't done so already) so feel free to take the survey here - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F8HPK22 Lucy will be posting the results so far onto the website shortly.
- Other Events
Those who follow us on social media will know that we had to postpone the canyoning event, and a further date to do this will be publicized as soon as possible. However, we have even bigger plans for our next fundraising event – including workshops and other entertainment on the day. Watch this space!
